Privacy Policy

The short version

On the $10 and $100 plans, your documents, tables and files stay on your machine. We never receive them, so we cannot read them, train on them or sell them. What we hold is the small amount needed to run an account and a licence.

There is one exception, and we will not bury it: the $1 Contributor plan is cheap precisely because you agree to send us your documents and tables for research. That is the whole trade. If you did not knowingly choose that plan, it does not apply to you.

Who we are

monkeyplex is operated by Datasketch. For anything in this policy — including a request to see or delete your data — write to privacy@monkeyplex.app.

What we collect

This is the complete list. There is nothing held back for a general-purpose clause.

  • Your account — email address, whether it is verified, and the display name your sign-in provider gives us. If you sign in with Google, we receive these from Google; we never see your Google password.
  • What you bought — which plan, whether it is active, which products it unlocks, and an identifier linking you to your Stripe customer record. We never see your card. Card details go to Stripe and never reach our servers.
  • Licence activations — for each device you activate, the name your computer reports for itself (usually a hostname you chose) and the operating system family, such as darwin or windows. This is how a licence knows it is on three machines rather than three hundred.
  • Command-line sign-ins — when a monkey* tool signs in, short-lived codes and a label for the session, so you can revoke it later.
  • Pricing poll answers — the option you chose and anything you typed in the write-in box. To stop one person voting a thousand times we store a salted one-way hash of your IP address and browser user-agent. The salt is secret and the hash is never linked to your account. We do not store your IP address or user-agent themselves.

The $1 Contributor plan — the one exception

If — and only if — you buy the $1 Contributor licence, you are agreeing that the documents and tables you create in monkeyplex are sent to us and studied for research and product statistics. That is why it costs a tenth of the standard licence. It is the entire difference between the two.

What we still never do with it: sell it, rent it, hand it to advertisers, or attach it to an advertising profile. We ask for it to understand how the software is used and to improve it.

You can withdraw at any time by emailing privacy@monkeyplex.app. We stop collecting immediately.

Withdrawing ends the discount, and with it the Contributor licence. The $1 price exists because of the data; without the data there is no $1 product. You can keep using monkeyplex by upgrading to the $10 licence and paying the difference — we will send you a link. We would rather tell you that plainly here than have you discover it after you write to us.

Your files are not affected. Everything you made is on your own machine and stays yours, in open formats, whatever happens to the licence.

What we can and cannot delete. On request we delete the documents and tables we hold. We cannot reverse aggregate statistics already derived from them — a count, an average or a model already trained does not contain your file, and cannot be un-computed. Anyone promising otherwise is describing something they cannot do.

The $10 licence is the same software and shares nothing. It is not going away, and it is what makes choosing the $1 plan a choice.

What we never collect

  • The contents of your work — on the $10 and $100 plans. Documents, tables, spreadsheets and the files you open stay on your device. They are not uploaded, backed up to us, or scanned. On those plans there is no server to send them to. The $1 Contributor plan is the documented exception above.
  • Anything used to train a model. Not your files, not your prompts, not your usage. If you connect your own AI provider key, your prompts go from your machine to that provider under their terms, and not through us.
  • Advertising and tracking. No ad networks, no tracking pixels, no third-party analytics, no cross-site profiles. We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone, for any purpose.

Who processes it

We use a small number of providers to run the service. They may process your data only to provide their service to us:

  • Clerk — sign-in and session management
  • Neon — the database holding the above
  • Stripe — payments, card details and invoices
  • Deno Deploy — hosting for monkeyplex.app
  • Cloudflare — DNS and email routing

Our servers and database are in the United States. If you are outside the US, using monkeyplex means your account data is processed there.

How long we keep it

Account and purchase records are kept while your account exists, and for as long afterwards as tax and accounting law requires us to keep records of a sale — this is typically several years and is not something we can waive. Poll answers are kept indefinitely in aggregate; they are not linked to you. Expired sign-in codes are removed automatically.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, export it, or delete it. Write to privacy@monkeyplex.app and we will respond within 30 days.

Deleting your account removes your profile, entitlements and licence activations. It does not touch the files on your computer — those were always yours and we never had them. We must keep a minimal record of a completed purchase where the law requires it.

If you are in the EU, UK or California, you have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR or CCPA — including objecting to processing and lodging a complaint with your local authority. We do not sell personal information as those laws define it.

Cookies

We set cookies to keep you signed in, and one to stop the pricing poll counting you twice. That is all. There are no advertising or analytics cookies, so there is no consent banner to dismiss.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who processes it, we will update the date above and tell account holders by email before it takes effect. Past versions are in the public git history of this page.
