Terms of Service

monkeyplex is operated by Datasketch ("we", "us"). By buying or using monkeyplex you agree to these terms. If you are agreeing on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are allowed to bind it.

You need an account so your licence follows you and the command-line tools know who you are. Keep your sign-in secure; you are responsible for what happens under your account. You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live.

We may suspend an account for non-payment, fraud, chargeback abuse, or attempts to break the service for other people. We will tell you why.

monkeyplex is licensed, not sold. Subject to these terms we grant you a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use monkeyplex on up to the number of devices your licence allows.

• Buy once ($10) — a perpetual licence to the version current at the time of purchase. It does not expire. It keeps working if we stop trading, shut down our servers, or vanish entirely. It does not include upgrades to later versions.
• Contributor ($1) — the same software as the $10 plan at a tenth of the price, in exchange for your agreement that the documents and tables you create are sent to us and studied. You may withdraw that agreement at any time, and we stop collecting immediately — but withdrawing ends the discount, and the licence with it. The $1 price exists because of the data; without the data there is no $1 product. You may upgrade to the $10 licence and pay the difference to carry on. Your files are unaffected and remain yours either way. See the Privacy Policy for what we can and cannot delete. The $10 plan shares nothing and is not going away — it is what makes this a choice.
• Subscribe ($100/year) — every version we release during your subscription, and they stay yours afterwards. Renews annually until cancelled.

If a subscription lapses or you cancel, you keep every version released while you were paying, permanently. You stop receiving new ones. Lapsing never locks you out of the software or of your own files. If you also bought a perpetual licence, letting a subscription lapse does not affect it.

You may not resell, sublicense or redistribute monkeyplex, remove its licensing, or use it to build a competing product.

You keep all rights to everything you create with monkeyplex. We claim no ownership of it, on any plan.

On the $10 and $100 plans your documents and tables stay on your device — we do not receive them, and therefore cannot read them, train any model on them, sell them or hand them to anyone.

On the $1 Contributor plan you grant us a limited, revocable licence to receive and analyse the documents and tables you create, for research and product improvement only. You still own them. We do not sell them or use them for advertising. You may revoke this at any time; revoking ends the Contributor discount and the licence that came with it, and you may upgrade to the $10 licence to continue. Revoking never affects the files on your own machine.

Because your files are on your machine, backing them up is your responsibility. We cannot restore what we never had.

Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax we are required to collect. Payments are processed by Stripe under their terms; we never receive your card details.

Subscriptions renew automatically each year at the then-current price. We will email you before a price change takes effect, and you can cancel at any time — cancelling stops the next renewal and does not claw back the period you already paid for.

Refunds: 14 days, no argument. If monkeyplex is not for you, email support@monkeyplex.app within 14 days of purchase and we will refund you in full. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, this is in addition to your statutory rights.

monkeyplex can use your own API key with an AI provider. Those requests go from your machine to that provider under their terms and pricing, not ours. We are not responsible for what a third-party model does with a prompt you send it, and we do not see those prompts.

The website and account services are provided as-is and may be interrupted. We may change or discontinue parts of the hosted service.

The software you installed keeps working regardless. It runs locally and does not require our servers to open your files. If we shut down permanently we will give account holders reasonable notice and a way to export their account data.

monkeyplex is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows. We do not promise it is error-free or fit for a particular purpose.

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to monkeyplex is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profits or lost data.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or a consumer's statutory rights.

You can stop using monkeyplex and delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy). We may end this agreement if you materially breach these terms and do not fix it within 30 days of us telling you.

A perpetual licence you paid for survives the end of this agreement unless it was obtained fraudulently or has been refunded or charged back.

We may update these terms. For changes that materially reduce your rights we will email account holders at least 30 days before they take effect, and you may cancel and request a pro-rata refund of any unused subscription time. Past versions are in the public git history of this page.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and may bring proceedings there.
